The Genocide Awareness Project recently hosted by Students for Life at the University of Central Florida cleary accomplished its mission of fostering discussion about the issue of abortion.
In the Central Florida Future, the campus newspaper, questions were raised about the SGA's allocation of $1,000 to fund the event. To the SGA's credit, senator and FAO committee chair Erica DeSanti has said that "groups shouldn't be denied funds due to political stance."
However, in the same breath DeSanti also says "The organizations should get promotional materials approved through the Operations Review Committee in order to get the SGA stamp of approval, from now on."
Will organizations bringing controversial events to campus experience more difficulty obtaining funds in the future? It appears so if SGA is planning on adding more steps to the already bureaocratic process.
